The earliest I can trace this family back is to William EASTERBROOK and Jane WESTAWAY living in Holne, on the edge of Dartmoor. Thomas EASTERBROOK was born in Holne, married Elizabeth PULLING in Dittisham, near Dartmouth and Torquay, lived in Crabtree, parish of Egg Buckland, near Plymouth in the early 1820s. The next record shows him and Elizabeth living in Clerkenwell, Middlesex in 1841. He died in Lewisham in 1867. Thomas's youngest son John Pulling, born in Crabtree, was recorded with his parents in Clerkenwell in 1841 but died in the Torquay area in 1849. Ann EASTERBROOK and William WYCOTT of HolneFamily 6

Elias is the son of James EASTERBROOK and Joan TOLCHARD of Holne. Elias and Joan operated Holne Park and Staddicombe Farm, but emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1831 with 6 of their children to join their eldest son, James, who had moved to Canada several years earlier. In 1835 Elias and Joan returned to England with their 2 youngest children, George 13 and Ann 9. They returned to Nassagaweya in Canada in the spring of 1840. Their visit to England prompted other relatives to also migrate to Canada including Elias's sister, Susannah (married to Nicholas NORRISH). Their children and families are:

In the 1851 census James and Jane have unmarried children John and Elizabeth and grandchildren Susan and William. Susan is the base child of Elizabeth. I cannot find a birth certificate for William but it is likely he is also Elizabeth's child. William was born in Plymouth and moved to London where he married Mary. Susan moved to Islington where she married. Thomas moved to Thanet in Kent and then to London. He used the variant Eastbrook and this has been passed to his descendants.
