William John PENGILLY was a travelling salesman who moved his family from Cornwall to Gloucester and then to Shrewsbury. He was successful enough to send his oldest child to private school. He seems to have spend some time in the first decade of the 20th century in the USA as his oldest children were born there (according to the 1911 census) and he may have married there.
